Happy Halloween...again!

It is indeed that time of year again. The time for pilfering youth. Whether in reference to the youth who pilfer my candy, or in reference to myself who attempts to pilfer a little youth by living vicariously through those who answer the call of my "trick or treaters welcome" sign, the truth remains. Even worse is that I've sucked my "fluff", Mesquite, into the whole mess by transforming her into "Lobster Mesquite" this year. There is some shame to be felt in that. But, it is no worse than the shame of sneaking in one more pumpkin cookie because "pumpkins are healthy, right?" That is easy to say has the crumbs bounce off my chest, but we all know that truth.

My halloween was broken down into 3 parts this year. The pre-party, the pre-pre-party, and the actual evening. The pre-pre-party took place on the beach. It was my friend Valerie's 30th birthday party. Margueritas and burritos by firelight. Very nice! Then, Steve and I ran home to change into our costumes. Biker and woodland fairy respectively. Photos omitted purposefully. Then, it was off to the pre-party. Melissa's halloween parties are legendary. I believe the cops came 3 times last year. This was mostly thanks to the punch, which was made with a gallon of vodka. I'm not joking, the recipe was misread. A gallon. So, even the most seasoned drinkers fell victim to that shit. No one expected that each cup held about 3 shots. I missed that party. I was out of town.

This year, Melissa's party seemed more subdued but it was fun. My costume received the hoped-for response from my peers. No one expected me in glitter. Glitter, people!! I hate that stuff. It never goes away. But, I wore it for the effect, which was sufficient. So, for actual Halloween, Steve and I put back on our costumes and passed out. I passed out candy, and Steve just passed out. I'm not kidding. He was asleep on the couch at 8:30! There were toddlers in bear outfits up later. It was probably my fault for renting Boring Hill, I mean Silent Hill. It was like warm milk and a down blanket.

This year, there were only about 6 groups of kids. So, I'm left with a whole lot of candy. It turned out that it wasn't even necessary for Steve to hide all the Reese's Fastbreaks at the bottom of the bowl, although he did. For someone who "doesn't like dessert", he sure became obsessed with those damn Fastbreaks. He said it was the nougat, but I think it is that as a non-candy-eater, his tolerance is just low. Anywho, the kids were cute, and I was stuck in a sexy-fairy outfit with nothing to do. So, I went to bed early as well. Damn, I'm getting old! Halloween is still among my favorite holidays. Although, I think I've solidified it as Mesquite's least favorite. But, that's just because she hasn't seen her X-mas outfit.
